A showery Saturday interspersed with some thundery rain was followed by a beautiful Sunday as the Evolution ShelterBox teams held their final weekend’s training before the Dartmoor Challenge in September.
Starting in the Beautiful Raleigh Estate in Dittisham we walked into Dartmouth and along the coast path before circling round through ‘undulating’ (very steep hills) farm and parkland and returning via the ferry to the Raleigh Estate.
We walked 16 tough miles on Saturday carrying all our gear and then camped in the woods on the Raleigh Estate courtesy of the Green family.
For some team members this was their first experience of camping and the wine consumed around the fire certainly helped.
Sunday was bright and sunny and, after Nik had cooked bacon and sausage on the fire we set off for another 6 strenuous miles round the estate.
We are now all ready for the ShelterBox Dartmoor Challenge in September, the training has been great fun over the spring and summer with the teams increasing the distance and climbing on the walks and extending the amount of navigation they have had to do. Many thanks are due to Nik and Rob Green for organising these routes, and for providing the teambuilding training at the start of the programme as well as the final campsite last weekend.
Fundraising is going well and we are hoping to reach our target of £10,000 for ShelterBox by the 11th September.
All donations are really helpful, even £1 will be useful, especially if you giftaid it too.
